Does a factory auto warranty expire contingent on purchase date or model year?
I have a 2004 vehicle with a 4 year, 50 thousand mile factory warranty. I purchased the vehicle new from a dealership in June, 2004. So, does the warranty expire 4 years from the date of original purchase (ie, June 2008) or 4 years from the model year of the vehicle (I’m guessing January 2008 then)??
Thanks so much.

The warranty starts from the first date the vehicle was put into service. nick@night
Yup, it’s the purchase date. redleader
They didn’t say 4 1/2 years, did they? The meter starts when you sign the paper. Johneye
It’s the day you purchased the vehicle.
If you signed the papers to buy the car on June 15, 2004, then your warranty expires on June 15, 2008 (or 50,000, whichever is first).
This would also be true if you bought a used car and inherited the balance of a factory warranty from an original owner.
For example, say someone bought your car in your example on May 1, 2006. The factory warranty (4 year, 50K miles) would transfer over, meaning that it would expire for them on June 15, 2008, as well. Stupid Flanders
